If you can believe it, this is a Judd Apatow movie. It was written by Kristin Wiig, and it was clearly aimed towards women. I think Mr. Apatow is feeling some guilt for only making movies for men for the last decade.
I love almost all of these women. I’d probably go see a Kristin Wiig movie regardless, but it helps that these other girls are here too. Maya Rudolph is wonderful, I wish she got to play more characters in movies, but I’ll take her where I can get her. That new girl from The Office is surprisingly funny, she has a very understated hilarity. On her own I don’t think it would be funny, but combined with Kristin Wig (or Steve Carell) it works. I looooove Wendi Mclendon-Covey. She was my favorite on Reno 911 and she was hilarious on Lovespring International which never got enough attention. I don’t know how Rose Byrne got cast, and the big lady… meh.
