The first movie that made me cry was Toy Story.  The most recent was Up.  Pixar knows how to get me.  (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button made me cry the most though, that was rough.)  I’m 100% sure that I will be crying during Toy Story 3.  The thought of Andy growing up and forgetting about his toys makes me sad now.  I’m a slightly nostalgic person, and losing ones innocence and childhood seems like the worst thing.

This movie is looking better and better.  I’m still not excited about the American setting, but I’ll live with it.  The cast is looking great.  Uma Thurman looks pretty outrageous.  I don’t look forward to Pierce Brosnan’s transformation.  Rosario Dawson is looking great, I wish she got better roles, it seems like she doesn’t get in enough good movies.  The kids look OK, I can imagine that the girl is going to reach a Hermione level of annoying very quickly.

I am very unsure about this movie.  When I first watched the teaser I had a lot of hope.  It looked like a Harry Potter knock-off with Greek mythological characters instead of witches and wizards.  Sounds good, right?  Then I read the book.

Whew, the book is truly awful.  Granted it wasn’t written for adults, but technically neither was Harry Potter.  Honestly though, this book is terrible no matter how young you are.  I now have no intention of reading more of the books.

After I read the book I watched the teaser again and discovered that despite the terrible book the movie might still hold some promise.  Then they released this trailer.  Now I’m back on the ban wagon.  As long as the director and the screen-writers really change the story then this could be a good movie.  So this isn’t a full endorsement, I am not behind this movie, but I will say that it looks significantly better than the book.

Toy Story was a big part of my childhood.  I was raised on Disney movies, and I was 7 when the movie originally came out, pretty much the perfect age for a movie like this.  Anywho, we’re on to the third movie and this one looks like it’ll make me cry more than the other two.  I’ve always been extremely nostalgic, so a movie about leaving toys behind is terribly depressing for me.  Also personification of inanimate objects is a hobby of mine (also a sign of insanity), so this movie is right up my alley.

I don’t usually post TV-Spots on this blog, there are usually just too many, and if I start posting them I might never stop.  Plus they’re usually just shortened versions of the trailer.  Buuut, Where the Wild Things is going to be my favorite movie this year so I’ll make an exception.  Also there have been an extraordinary amount of TV-Spots for this movie.

And just for the fun of it I’m going to post the rest of the Where the Wild Things Posters.  Apparently a lot of people have used my blog to get posters, that’s fine with me (probably it isn’t fine with the other sites where I get the posters from.)

I would never have found this trailer if it weren’t for Twitch, my favorite indie movie blog.  They had a great interview with Tomm Moore the director of this film.  (It’s worth checking out Twitch just to see all their awesome banners.)

This is a ridiculously good looking cartoon from Ireland.  It’s distributed by Beuna Vista International, I don’t really know if that’s Disney or not, but that’s nothing but a stamp of approval and a budget so it hardly matters.  I can’t find a lot of information about the movie, there is a lot of ambiguity.  It’s sometimes called Brendan and the Secret of the Kell, and I have no idea when it’s coming to North America, or if it already did.

I shouldn’t actually say this because it’s sure to jinx it, but wouldn’t it be great if this movie was nominated for the animated Oscar.  It’s better than Monsters Vs. Aliens getting nominated.

Anywho, click the poster to watch the trailer.

This is probably going to be my favorite movie this year.  I can’t even describe how excited I am about this film.  The book is just glorious, I’ve bought it for all my young relatives and insist on reading any time they ask me to read a book to them.  This translation of that story looks amazing.  How Spike Jonze managed to create this story from a dozen sentences and pictures is mind-blowing.

This movie supposedly went through development hell.  But from these trailers you would never know.

This is the newest Wes Anderson movie.  It is a departure from his from his usual style of…well, live-action films.  Wes Anderson is by far my favorite director, the Royal Tenebaums is my favorite film, so it shouldn’t be surprising that I’m looking forward to this movie.  Plus it has a great voice cast, I know that’s almost a given but this one is very good.

I encourage everyone to give this movie a chance.  I know it’s been a long time since many of you have watched a stop-motion film, but they are still good.  If you’re still concerned then I encourage you to rent, buy or steal A Nightmare Before Christmas.  That should restore some confidence in the medium.
