Oscar bait. That sums up this movie. I’m sure it’s a good movie, but you don’t hire Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer and Paul Giamatti without the Oscars on your mind. Also the fact that it’s about the drama in Leo Tolstoy’s personal life doesn’t hurt. I won’t pretend that I know anything about Tolstoy, but War & Peace is somewhere on my list of books to read (sure it is).
And look it’s Octavia of the Julii.

For some reason this biopic shocked me. It was ok OK make a movie about the Queen, a movie about Johnny Cash, but suddenly I hear about a movie about John Lennon and I’m shocked.
Anywho, this movie looks very good. It’s about the teenage-hood and origin of John Lennon and the formation of The Beatles. It looks very good. Ironically I really don’t like The Beatles early work. But I’ll enjoy the movie nonetheless.
As for the acting, it seems quite good. John Lennon had a very distinctive voice and I think this kid did pretty good. The Paul McCartney kid looked pretty good too.
