I still need to read this book, so I can’t really say much about the “trueness” of this movie.  I hear that the C.I.A. program was real, and the book about the failed experiments is hilarious but the director chose to pretend that the experiments were successful in order to make a funnier film.  After I actually read the book I’ll be more equipped to say what’s going on there.

The premise looks suitibly outrageous, but besides that this movie looks great.  Although the director is obviously stepping on some Soderberg and Coen toes, he seems to be doing it delicately.  If he was completely ripping off their style then I doubt he’d be able to get this cast.  Just look at this cast, it’s the largest collection of dead-pan performers.  Kevin Spacey could probably keep me laughing throughout this whole movie.

I don’t know how many more times Michael Cera can play this character, but it’s still working for me.  This is yet another twist on that characters.  Michael Cera’s character seems to consciously develop Dissociative Identity Disorder.  It should be fun.

Oh that mustache.

Youth in Revolt 01

A few weeks ago I noticed that I posted the first trailer to this movie almost a year ago and then forgot about it.  I wondered whether I had been wrong about the movie, perhaps it wasn’t as good as I first though.  But then I watched this new trailer.  It still looks great.  Although I should admit that I am consistantly tricked by over-saturated period movies all the time.

Remember Office Space?  Good, this movie is counting on it.  This is Mike Judge’s new movie about administrative ridiculousness.  The cast also seems…funny.  I’m still a little shocked by the appearance of Gene Simmons.

At times this trailer is unnecessarily raunchy, but that seems to be the new trend with red-band and internet trailers.

This is Christopher Nolan’s next movie.  I find that he does an extremely good job of keeping his audience uncomfortable, that is the common thread in all of his movies.  There’s anticipation but mostly you are just dreading what’s going to happen next (it could be the lack of color in his movies).  This movie is sure to be a success, at least for a week.  It stars Leonardo DiCaprio (does anyone even remember when this guy was a heart-throb?  Thank got those days are over.)  It also Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Collitard and Cillian Murphy.  That’s quite an awesome cast.

This is just a teaser, so don’t be too worried if it’s utterly mystifying.  The trailer will come soon enough (likely October), and it will have more about the story.  (I’ve also read a spoilery synopsis, and it sounds good).

Avatar is probably the most epic-est movie ever made.  James Cameron finally decided to capitalize on the outrageous success of Titanic and make the movie he’s always wanted to make.  This is that movie.  I honestly couldn’t care less about the story, what I care about is how it looks.  This looks to be the most beautiful movie ever made.  It has the most impressive effects work ever.  And it’s all in 3D.  I know 3D has been around forever, but only with a budget like this one will 3D be seen to it’s full effect.

[UPDATE: Empire posted a wonderful scene-by-scene analysis of the trailer.  Check it out here.]

I actually had no desire to see a movie about werewolves even if it was a remake of the classic movie(s).  But when they announced the cast I was suddenly interested.  This movie stars Benicio Del Toro, an extremely underused actor; Emily Blunt, a very plain looking, but very talented actress; Hugo Weaving, who’s eyebrows could get Oscar nominations; and Anthony Hopkins, I’d probably enjoy watching him do absolutely anything.  Anywho, the point is that this is a story I am totally uninterested in but it is completely redeemed by extraordinary casting.

Oh yeah, the studio has absolutely no confidence in this movie, so it’ll probably be released sometime early next year and there will be no promotion for it.  So if you want to see this movie you’ll have to pay very close attention to your local indie-style theatre.

It’s hard to believe that the teaser/viral video for this movie was released more than a year ago (when I say more than a year I mean approximately 366 days ago).  This movie is full of too much hilarity.  Jennerifer Coolidge is almost enough to get me into the theatre, especially with those ill-fitting sweaters.  But this Ronald Chevalier character is just too glorious.  Then throw in some sci-fi spoofing.  It’s going to be epic.

First of all, this poster is very misleading.  This movie is not strictly a horror movie or even a thriller.  It’s actually more of a sci-fi or action movie.  (I don’t think I’m doing a good job selling it.)  The point is, I didn’t watch this trailer for a few months because I thought it looked like another vampire movie, or worse a cheap little horror movie.  But I was wrong.  This movie looks glorious.  I highly recommend that you give this trailer a chance.

Short films are great, and all that, but I find that I never have a reason to watch them.  That’s why this movie sounds so interesting.  It’s a collection of short films about New York.  The trailer is more of an end credit sequence rather than a real trailer but you get the point: there are a lot of big names here.
