Oscar bait.  That sums up this movie.  I’m sure it’s a good movie, but you don’t hire Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer and Paul Giamatti without the Oscars on your mind.  Also the fact that it’s about the drama in Leo Tolstoy’s personal life doesn’t hurt.  I won’t pretend that I know anything about Tolstoy, but War & Peace is somewhere on my list of books to read (sure it is).

And look it’s Octavia of the Julii.

This is pretty much the same as the first trailer.  And I’m excited in the same half-hearted way.  I just miss Arrested Development so much that any movie with actors from the show gets me excited.

This trailer reveals a few more actors, Steve Buscemi, and Justin Long.  Neither of these actors interest me (I wonder if anyone gets excited about a Steve Buscemi movie, hmm).  They do give Zach Galifianakis more scenes, that’s always a good thing.  Mr Galifianakis makes me happy.  I love to see how far he came so quickly.

Ben Stiller rarely motivates me into seeing a movie.  Even though he is in my favorite movie (guess what that is) and he did quite good in Tropic Thunder, I still don’t feel the need to see any of the movies that he makes.  This is an exception.  He looks quite good in this movie, although he looks like he’s lost a huge amount of weight.

This movie was written and directed by Noah Baumbach, who is insisting that he is a good director.  He’s probably right, but it does seem quite forced sometimes.  He did write The Life Aquatic, and he had something to do with the Fantastic Mr. Fox.  He seems to excell at depicting lost 30 year olds (that seems to be a big theme in movie and TV these days).  Anywho, this is another movie with that same situation.

About two years ago Family Guy aired their hilarious Star Wars episode.  Despite that being the best Family Guy episode in recent history it took them a long time to finally release this one.  I’m sure this episode/movie will be just as good as the original, but surely it didn’t have to take this long.  And I hope they don’t wait this long for the Return of the Jedi parody.

I still have s light problem with the “casting”.  Cleveland should have been Lando.  Instead they made him Artoo, and they have Mort playing Lando.  And Joe should have been Artoo.  Mort jokes won’t make any sense coming out of Lando.  Besides that it looks good.

This movie is looking better and better.  I’m still not excited about the American setting, but I’ll live with it.  The cast is looking great.  Uma Thurman looks pretty outrageous.  I don’t look forward to Pierce Brosnan’s transformation.  Rosario Dawson is looking great, I wish she got better roles, it seems like she doesn’t get in enough good movies.  The kids look OK, I can imagine that the girl is going to reach a Hermione level of annoying very quickly.

Another trailer, more story.  I don’t really have anything more to say about this one.  The cast is glorious and the sets are amazing.  I’m not one for horror movies or thrillers, but this looks very good.

This is an “international trailer”,  in other words the subtitles are in another language, in this case french.

This movie is looking very good.  I wonder what’s going to happen at the Oscars this year.  When Chicago was nominated and won almost all of the Oscars back in 2002 people were shocked.  I was happy, but I wonder if people will give this movie much of a chance.  To say it’s similar to Chicago is an understatement, it relies on most of the same sets, costumes and characters.  I don’t think that’s a bad thing, I loved Chicago, but I hope everyone else remembers how good it was rather than how it didn’t deserve the Oscar.

Regarding the casting, I just heard some really unfortunate news.  The role that went to Nicole Kidman was originally supposed to go to Catherine Zeta Jones.  That would have been better.  I’d rather watch Chicago than Moulin Rouge, any day.  The rest of the cast seems quite good.  Kate Hudson stands out as the most American, least versatile of all the actresses (I don’t count Fergie as an actress), that could be why they gave her this trailer.  About Fergie, you have to admit that she was cast well as a dirty whore.  I hear that Penelope Cruz is going to mask her accent for this movie to make it more Italian.  I’m thrilled, I hate her real accent.  Marion Cotillard is likely going to do the best in this film.  I believe that because she looks like the least assertive out of all these women but you know she’s going to have the best voice and probably be the most likable.  If you saw Public Enemies you know how good she is.  That movie is full of ridiculousness, but she was amazing.

This teaser really misrepresents this movie, or at least the comic-book.  I’m not saying this is a bad teaser, but there’s no doubt that the movie will be significantly more gory and hard-core.

But on to the story.  This is based on a very, very new comic book series about a teenage kid who is bored and depressed (what a unique teenager) so he decides that he should become a superhero.  Things don’t go well, he get’s destroyed.  This comic doesn’t hold back, it may at times look like a comedy, but when people are getting beat-up or killed it doesn’t edit anything.  I hear that the movie does the same thing, and I hope that’s true.  But until we get a red-band trailer we’ll just have to hope.

Oh Tina Fey, how I love her character.  Likely she’s going to receive even more backlash for playing that same character again, but that’s her shtick.  I’m really looking forward to this movie.  It’ll be like Thursday night on NBC, except I’ll be paying money.  Honestly though, this movie does look very funny.  These two are hilarious and I look forward to watching them play off each other.  It looks like they have no chemistry, but I think that’s going to make everything a lot more fun.

And look at the rest of the cast.  (BTW, I’ve put the actors and actresses that I like in the tags section, that way I don’t have to mention them every time.)

When I was quite young I rented the old Clash of the Titans movie (it released sometime close to Star Wars).  I expected it to be a classic campy fantasy movie.  It was pretty awful.  I’m all for old-fashion special effects, but come on.  It wasn’t the classic it was made out to be.  This version looks better.  Granted this trailer is nothing more than a testosterone filled Hollywood version of a music video, but I’m sure the movie will be better.  It’s undoubtedly a big budget action movie, but it has some serious talent and shouldn’t be ignored as a 300 copycat (although that wouldn’t be the worst thing, 300 was a lot of fun).

And yes, I rolled my eyes too when the line “Titans Will Crash” came on the screen.
